2.7 Kanji Week

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 7

The final piece of this week's set is here. Happy Saturday!

The kanji for the sea is beautiful, isn't it? A nice, variegated teal would look perfect with this.
There may be more kanji weeks in the future, but for now, this is it. I hope you enjoy these designs!

2.6 Kanji Week

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 6

The next kanji I have in store for you is the symbol for the word "cat!" I love cats. They're so amazing, even if they do shed their fur onto literally everything. You won't get the symbol for "dog," though, because there was another kanji that I thought looked better.

I currently have two cats, and they're the sweetest things ever.

I hope you like it! Tomorrow you'll receive the final piece of the Kanji Week set.

2.5 Kanji Week

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 5

Here's another fairly common kanji — the symbol for flower. Only two more patterns to go before this collection is complete!

It's also very simple!

As always, happy stitching!

2.4 Kanji Week

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 4

This one is a classic! Every magazine that I've seen that featured kanji has featured the symbol for love. It's so cute, too, because the symbol for "heart" is in there, too! I mean, it's a tad bit squished, but that's how kanji writing works. Man, I really should get back to learning that language.

Pink or red would be the most obvious choice of floss colours.

And no, tomorrow's kanji will not be "hatred." Haha.

In other news, I had to have my computer wiped. I pretty much expected that, though, which is why I have everything backed up. I'm a hoarder both in terms of real things and of data, and I can't stand the thought of losing my stuff — especially when I don't know what I potentially lost. It's a very scary thought, really. I guess my Photoshop settings are screwed over, though, and that's how I was making these patterns (and apparently, Creative Suite needs to be re-downloaded entirely). I'll have to check on all the other programs.

I also had to get a new battery, and that was my main reason for needing to visit the computer store, anyway. And while it was really expensive, it sure beats buying a whole new machine for $2,000. (Yes, I use Apple.)

Anyway, that's that. Tomorrow I'll have the next pattern for you!

2.3 Kanji Week

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 3

This one was a bit late! Sorry about that.

I really like how this kanji looks.

Morning! A good complement to yesterday's kanji.

2.2 Kanji Week

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 2

Here's the next one for you. You might be able to guess what the next one will be, as it's the opposite of the current one here!

Navy blue variegated floss would be beautiful for this.

Tomorrow I'll have the third pattern for you.

2.1 Kanji Week

Happy Sunday, and welcome to a new themed week! I hope to make these a lot more common from now on, so we shall see what happens.

The theme for this week is: Kanji!
Week 2, Pattern 1

That's right — seven little Chinese or Japanese symbols. They're all the same size, and they're all originals. They're also, however, a bit cliché.

One of my favorite kanji.

See what I mean? I'm sure you can find this particular kanji everywhere, but it was my favorite one when I tried to teach myself Japanese back in middle school. I should pick up on that again, because I've gotten really rusty!

There will be more in the coming week!

Pluto Setup

I've finished transferring the colours onto bobbins, and the fabric is all laid out on a white pillow. Being black fabric, though, it's guaranteed to get cat hair all over it within a few minutes. Regardless, it will still be a fun little project.

I had a bit of a scare earlier — I thought I'd lost my scissors. As it turns out, they were in my overly-stuffed purse. So, here is the setup as of now. I may begin later tonight, or possibly tomorrow.

Nine colours and black fabric.

Watch for more updates on this, and tomorrow, a new themed week begins.

I have my Pluto threads, as well as threads for one other project!

I had a couple of gift certificates to a yarn shop, so I finally went out and used one of them to buy a bunch of new floss colours and some black fabric. There are several things that are technically ahead of these projects, but I can set them aside for at least a little bit.

I will post a photo of my Pluto setup when I begin. I'll see about posting progress pictures of my other current projects as well — I'll probably work on them more than I'll work on the Pluto piece, since all my current WIPs are supposed to be gifts. Whoops.

The non-Pluto threads I bought were for a pretty wall clock pattern, plus a couple of variegated ones I thought looked nice.

Also, on Sunday, a new themed week will begin! There's only been a strawberry week so far, and on Sunday you'll find out what the next theme is. Good night, and happy stitching.

This Pattern has Eluded Me for a Long Time, and Now, I Have it.

I remember first seeing this on Pinterest. It was a gorgeous pattern that depicted many people walking down the street with umbrellas. It looked so great, but there was no actual pattern anywhere. All I could find was the tantalizing preview.

Today, many months down the line, I have found the pattern itself — well, in pieces. The first set I found was incomplete, and the second set was full of repeated parts. But I was finally able to get the pieces to overlap correctly, and I'd like to share it with you.

I don't know who originally made the pattern. I can cut it in half if need be, as well.

Pluto Flyby -- Might Stitch this Historic Event!

Using Pic2Pat, I got a few patterns of varying size of the last closeup before the actual flyby -- which we will hear more about later! This is really exciting for me; I've been interested in astronomy since the second grade or earlier. I remember feeling crushed when I heard about the Columbia disaster in 2003, as it made me afraid to pursue that dream of one day going into space. Oops. But still, I love looking at photos, reading about phenomena, and speculating on what might be out there.

When New Horizons launched in 2006, I was ecstatic! I felt they should have sent a probe to Europa instead (given the idea that there could be a warm ocean of life under the ice), but it was still exciting nonetheless. Honestly, I'd been afraid I would forget about the whole thing by the time it reached Pluto. I suppose I was partially right; it wasn't exactly in the front of my mind until I heard it was about to complete the voyage. But when I did hear that it was finally going to happen, I became excited all over again.

So! Here's a screenshot of the pattern and its colours. Hopefully I can go out to buy the threads soon. Underneath the dwarf planet, it will read, "New Horizons / Jan 19, 2006 - Jul 14, 2015." I may even try to stitch it onto black fabric.

Some New Patterns

I think I'm going to restart the "A Cup of Month" project. I may keep the January one, though. We'll see. Anyway, I have a variety of new patterns that are on DeviantArt but not on here, so here they are!

The first of this pattern dump is a monarch butterfly.

This cute little butterfly is a pixel piece I found via Google.

Next up is a ribbon from a dress-up site called Poupée Girl. It's a lovely reddish-coloured bow.

Ribbons are the site's currency.

Then we have this large rose.

I don't remember where I found the original image, though.

This next pattern has a bit of a story behind it. It was another gift stitch, which I actually completed on time for once. I asked my French professor what her favorite French phrase was and what her favorite colours were. Black and teal were the colours, and "Tout s'arrange" (Everything falls into place) was the phrase.

She totally loved it.

Lastly, here is the Eye of Horus. It's a simple and popular motif, but I couldn't find a pattern for it anywhere. So, I made it!

I do love making patterns.

Etsy is a butt. Also, I'm back.

Oi. So I went onto Etsy to renew my card information; however, after typing in all the information, there was no submit button. I just hit the Enter key instead, only to realize... It opened my shop. I absolutely DID NOT WANT to open the shop yet! I was forced to pay 20¢ before I could re-close it. Why not have an "Are you sure you want to open your shop?" notification first? Ugh.

I had to stop messing with this blog because school became way too important... and stressful. I had a class that was completely NOT what I had signed up for, there were a few bumps in the road with other classes, and frankly, I'm just happy I graduated on time.

Now then, other news. That old gift-stitch post? Yeah, I'm still working on it. :/ Again, school. I also have two other projects now that are also for professors. I guess I'll be driving back up there eventually.

The Avantasia bookmark is long-since finished, though!

Still needs cleaning and actual finishing, though.

More updates to come.
